About me:
I am a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin with high honors. I have degrees in Studio Painting, Graphic Design, Art History, and Theatre Set Design.
My art career began in newspaper and magazine illustration in 1980. I taught myself traditional 2D cell animation, and made short films and videos that won festival awards.
In 1992 , I entered the video game industry as a concept artist, 3D modeler, and animator.
I currently reside in Central Texas, and am building up a painting portfolio.
Artist's Statement:
My personal art follows a Realist tradition that depicts people at work, at leisure, or involved in their daily routines in a presentation that is direct and subjective. The focus is the scene itself as a whole, not just the elements within. Like a director of a play, I carefully arrange the set and props, and pose the actors in a matter-of-fact tableau. Photographs are used, or sometimes frames of video and live drawings, but the end result is not photographic realism. The art is framed as if with a mechanical eye where time stands still allowing us to slowly examine the scene. We are eavesdropping on people going about their daily business.
My application of paint is intended to be deceptively casual. It is greatly influenced by graphic design and illustration art, with familiar objects simplified into shapes of color and strokes of paint, so that the viewer can appreciate the design for its own sake, and immediately interpret the scene without distractions.
